Courtroom Bios

After a 19-year career in the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Sonia Montejano brought her expertise to Hollywood, by joining the JUDGE JOE BROWN show as the courtroom bailiff.

Most recently, Montejano was supervisor of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department Court Services Division in Beverly Hills, where she was responsible for overseeing all security operations, including the bailiff staff, at the Beverly Hills courthouse. During her six year tenure she created and enforced security plans for all civil and criminal trials, including high-profile cases involving colorful celebrities Courtney Love and Winona Ryder.

Montejano joined the Rio Hondo Police Academy in 1988 after attending California State University, Los Angeles, for three years. Upon graduating from the Academy, she started her career as a deputy marshal in the L.A. County Marshal's Department where she spent five years enforcing civil judgments. Once the L.A. County Marshal's Department was absorbed by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Montejano was given various assignments within Court Services. When she was promoted to senior deputy in 1994, Montejano moved to the Beverly Hills Courthouse where she oversaw the court's security operations.

Born in Mexico, Montejano, who speaks fluent Spanish, was raised in Los Angeles, where her family moved when she was a baby. She currently resides in Glendale with her husband and teenage daughter.

In her spare time, Montejano pursues her passion for flamenco dancing, a hobby she took up seven years ago. The self-proclaimed "queen of projects" also enjoys renovating homes and is an avid fitness buff.
